Friday Favorites

It is once again time for my favorite Instagram pics!  You can follow us at Storybook_Reality!

We went to the zoo for an exclusive "members only:" night.  Free carousel ride?  Yes please!  We had way more fun than it looks in this photo.  Little Guy kept saying "wheee" everytime the horse went up and down.

Here's my little heartbreaker.  I already shared him once this week but I just love this photo of him.  This is one of those outfits that I wish I had bought in every size for the next 3 years!

So excited to finally receive our water table in the mail!

And clearly someone has no idea how this things is supposed to work.  I changed his clothes 2 times today because I kept finding him sitting down IN the water!!

I wish you could hear this little guy coo!  He gets in his play mat and coos the whole time!  I think he sounds like a little cat.  Regardless it is ADORABLE!!!!

According to the Little Guy this is the breakfast of champions.  23 month old champions that is.  I offered oatmeal and cheerios.  He requested peas and macaroni.  This was our compromise.

The Littlest Guy is ALL smiles when Daddy is around.  He seriously doesn't stop!

Love this cute little boy!

Melt my heart.  My sweet big boy who is almost two!  I can't believe it!!  Here we are getting ready to enjoy our ride on the carousel.  He has my heart!!!

Hope you had a wonderful week!!!

Favorite June Photo

This is my favorite photo from June.  I asked my Little Guy to give the Littlest Guy a "muah"--which is what he calls kisses.  It is even funnier when you look at the whole set because the baby has this terrified look on his face.  But I like the composition of this one the best.  I love my little boys!!

Thanks to Courtney for hosting such a fun link-up and inspiring me to keep taking photos!

Two Month Update

Dear Sweet Baby Reed,

If I thought the time passed quickly when your big brother was little I was wrong.  The weeks seem to be gong by so rapidly I can barely keep up.  You are such a precious baby and we couldn't be happier to have you in our little family.

At your two month appointment you were 23 inches long and weighed 11 pounds 10 ounces.  You had your shots and you were very brave.  You still continue to have some issues with your tummy but since Mama has cut out dairy things seem to be improving.

I started putting your newborn clothes away when you were about seven weeks old.  You are too tall for most of them so we moved you up a size.  You are also wearing size 1 diapers.  You love having your diaper changed!!  You just smile and coo the whole time.  Now that you are smiling more we can see that you have 2 dimples just like your big brother.  Is there anything cuter than a baby boy with dimples?

You had a bad cold this month and it really set you back on your attempt to sleep through the night.  Mama and Daddy were pretty tired getting up every hour day after day.  Once you started feeling better though your sleeping improved a lot.  Usually you go to bed now around 10 or 11 and sleep until 2 or 3.  Then you wake up at 5 or 6 to eat again.  A couple of days you slept from 11-5.  That was fabulous!!

You are a very easy going baby and very social.  You don't like to be left out of whatever is going on.  You don't have to be held all of the time but you want to be in the same room or area as Mama and Daddy.  You especially like your Daddy and just light up whenever he pays any attention to you.  It is precious.

We love being your Mama and Daddy.  We love watching your grow and change....just slow down!!

Love,
Mama & Daddy

Laura's Redneck Caviar

Doesn't this just look so yummy?!?  I've found that oftentimes the prettier food is the healthier it is.  Unless it's awesomely decorated cupcakes.  Then that rule doesn't apply.

After telling my Mom about this salsa she informed me that it is called Redneck Caviar.  Sure enough I googled it and found a million recipes.  The nice thing about this salsa though is you can add and remove ingredients and it will still taste great.

Traditionally I think this calls for something like the following:

2 cans of black beans
2 cans of yellow corn
1 green bell pepper
1 red bell pepper
1 purple onion
3 chopped tomatoes
1 can rotel
onion powder
garlic powder
1 small bottle of italian dressing

BUT

We are trying to be every more healthy at our house so here is how I made it.

Laura's Redneck Caviar

1 can of black beans
1 can of yellow corn
1/3 purple onion
1 large tomato
1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro
dash or two of salt
2 Tbsp lemon julice
2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil

As much as I would LOVE to put a whole thing of Itialian dressing in this it just isn't as good for me. I didn't have rotel on hand but I plan to add it the next time I make it.  We eat this on tacos or as a dip!  Other ingredients you could add or subtract include green onions, black eyed peas, parsley, chili powder, japerlenos, pimentos, lime juice, avocado...pretty much anything that sounds good to you!

Hope you enjoy this one as much as we do!

Miscellany Monday--Seersucker & Trucks

miscellany monday at lowercase letters
We bought this rug a couple of weeks ago because our house is becoming overrun by trucks.  Not really, but the little guy is pretty close to obsessed.  We point out every bus, schoolbus, train, truck, car or firetruck we see.  And don't even get me started on construction equipment.  It's pretty amusing to hear him attempting to say cement mixer and backhoe.

Trucks however make me CRAZY!  Why? Because I am weird.  I have a very, very good memory for weird things like this and it bothers me when I know a truck is missing. In my head the solution to this is to buy about 759 trucks.  That way I'll have no clue if any or missing.  The problem is I then won't be able to find my child because our house will be filled from floor to ceiling with trucks.

I went on a truck finding spree yesterday and was pretty successful.  We're still missing 1 white ambulance, a white firetruck and some sort of grey jeep.  I'm so weird!

Where's Waldo?  Can you see him?  Only if you are looking for a large deer!  We've traded alligators in the back pond for deer munching on easy to reach apples.  We live right next to a gulch that is apparently full of wildlife.  In the summer we see them pretty often and you have to be careful about planting certain things in your yard because the deer will eat them all!  I got some better pictures with my camera that I'll post later n the week.  She let me get pretty close.

Since I'm still avoiding dairy (which is both easier and harder than I thought) we've started eating this version of salsa at our house.  Yummy!!  Recipe to follow!!

My sister had her baby boy this week!! Isn't little John Walker adorable??  And look at that gorgeous hair?  He'll be a heart breaker for sure!!

And here's my little heart breaker!  Isn't he precious in his seersucker?  We aren't in the south but we'll still act like it! I hope this still fits when I take him for his first set of pictures because I think it is about the cutest thing ever.  This little guy is cooing and talking up a storm.  We just can't get enough!!

Hope your Monday is fabulous!!!

Friday Fun

This week has flown by. I'm trying to figure out a way to make time stand still. Any ideas?

We filled our week with trips to the farmer's market....eating lots of fresh fruit....2 month checkup (praise God for a healthy baby)...smiles and giggles...sleeping through the night.....shaving cream play....lots of walks...time in the Word and clearly time in Mama's makeup bag!

Hope your week was as fun as ours!!

Today's Prayer

I've been finding a lot of happiness and joy in these two little muchkins lately.  We've been getting a tiny more sleep which makes life seem less overwhelming.  And honestly life is just going by too quickly.  It seems like just yesterday I was wishing for babies and wondering if I'd ever have any.  And now two short years later I have two sweet little guys that make my life so full and wonderful

My prayer for these boys is that they would love Jesus and love each other.  I pray we will always be a close family.  That they will marry girls with beautiful hearts and who like to shop. (Clearly that is what my mother in law prayer for!)

I pray that I can continue to see the memories in the midst of the messes.  The opportunities in the midst of the chaos.  And that they will see Jesus in me and in Peter.

I pray that their little hearts and minds will stay pure and innocent.  That they will seek truth.  That they will pursue righteousness and be a champion for Christ.

I pray that I'll know when enough is enough.  When to put down the camera and join in the giggling.  When to stop whatever I'm doing and imprint the beauty of it on my mind and heart instead of racing to my phone to capture it.  I pray for balance between wanting to give my kids everything and wanting to give them what they need.

I pray for grace.

I pray for kindness.

And most of all I pray that time will go just a little slower.  That it will stand still for a couple of moments every once in a while so I can soak in the wonderfulness that comes along with being the Mama of these two sweet boys.  That I won't wish away the days waiting for naptime or Daddy to come home.  That I will enjoy every moment.  What a gift it is!

Second Quarter Photos

Wow!  Just last that the year is halfway over.  It is hard to believe!  I've had a mix of fun and frustration with my camera over the past few months.  I've been slowly switching to manual and try to take pictures there as much as possible.  There is so much left to learn though and I'm ready to just have awesome pictures all the time.  I often feel like I am missing precious pictures of these boys because I am trying to learn.  I'll go back and find that a picture I thought looked right was out of focus.  I'm trying to pick up the camera each day just to snap random pictures of the boys both for memories and for practice.  I hope I can figure out this focus issue sooner than later!

Regardless here are my top five photos.  All but the one of Reed with his whale were taken on manual so I am super proud of that.  I tried over and over and over to take that one but the camera just kept focusing on the back of the chair.  Lots of time to practice this one since he'll get a picture with his orca each month!

I love my the Little Guy's smile in this one.  And his pretty eyes.  He is my best bud!

We're learning to laugh and make the best of these types of situations.  Yes that is an entire box of cereal on the floor.

Happy 1 month to my Littlest Guy!!  His animal is the orca!

Isn't he just precious??

I love this one!  I love the color and especially that I took it on manual!!  It's my sweet parents and their sweet grandsons.  It's a framer for sure!!

I would say I can't wait until next time but I can!!  I need the second half of this year to go a little slower.  I'm savoring every sweet moment I get with my 2 little babies!!

Father and Mother Day Pictures

Here are our lovely photos from Mother's Day and Father's Day.  As you can see on Mother's Day (blue dress) neither boy was super cooperative and we didn't even try to get a picture with Daddy!

Thankfully we had beautiful weather for Father's Day and the boys were able to wear some of their cute spring colors.

I've also finally figured out how to do a watermark on my photos!!  I'm in Photoshop overload and I don't even know how to do much!  I'm excited to learn more though and hopefully it will just make taking photos even more fun!

Hope you had a wonderful Mother/Father's Day with your family!!

Baja Chicken Tacos

This is the recipe you've been waiting your whole life for.  Well, at least a week because that is when I first mentioned it.  Seriously I want to eat this everyday.  Or maybe every other day.  I'll alternate days between this and my chicken pot pie.

The boys and I try to eat lunch once a week with Peter.  His schedule is pretty busy and lately he has been getting home late.  Between that and him being gone for so long we just can't get enough time together.  Last week we decided to try what I known as "legit taco".  Apparently there is also a "shady taco" as well.  It has nothing to do with the food, just the outward appearance of the establishment.  Don't worry, shady taco is on the agenda for next week.

Sadly I've been avoiding dairy and this means no sour cream and no cheese for me.  Sigh.  I ordered chicken tacos because it looked like it would be enough food to fill me up and to share with the Little Guy.  When my plate came I thought it looked fine.  I wasn't particularly excited about it but I wasn't turned off either.  But then I took my first bite....

heaven in a corn tortilla.  Seriously!!

So because I knew I would be a taco addict from that point on I knew I needed to try to recreate the recipe at home.

Baja Chicken Tacos

1 packet McCormick Tinga De Pollo
1 8 oz can of tomato sauce
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 to 1/3 chopped green cabbage chopped
1 tomato, chopped
1 handful cilantro, chopped
1/4 to 1/3 purple onion, chopped
2-4 chicken breasts, cubed
1/2 cup water
corn or flour tortillas

Chop onions and saute in a little bit of olive oil.  Mix seasoning, water and tomato sauce and add to mixture. Add cubed chicken breasts.  Saute until chicken is fully cooked.

To make the slaw simply chop the tomato, onion, cilantro and cabbage.  I added a tiny bit of lemon juice to keep it fresh.  Depending on the ingredients you prefer you can add more or less of one or the other.

As usual that is it!  Easy and super yummy!!  These are a tad spicy but seriously addicting.  And they are really good for you!

We ate these with a side of black beans and avocado but you could always add rice to make the meal a little more filling.  Personally I'd rather eat about 17 more tacos!!

I hope you enjoy these as much as we do!

Insta-fun Instagram

I'm loving these posts! It gets me snapping more pictures and looking for the fun and beauty in the everyday. Mamas need that sometimes. Our everyday includes dirty dishes, dirty bottoms and dirty floors. We can either yell about spilled cereal or play in it. I don't know about you but I think playing in it is much more fun!
