Patriotic Fruit

I've written about how much I love the 4th of July.  It just makes me happy and so does this cute little dish!

This is more of a DIY than a recipe.  When my honey is out of town I try to do my grocery shopping before he leaves and after he returns.  I mean, I know it is most people's dream to take 2 boys under the age of 2 to the grocery but for some reason it isn't mine.  So when I needed to take a dish to a 4th of July party I decided to get creative with what I had in the house!

All you need for this dish is watermelon, blueberries and cookie cutters!

I have these cookie cutters from Wilton.  There are 101 and they include all the letters and numbers (great for teaching the Little Guy with playdough!)

I was going through these the other day to pick out letters, numbers and shapes since that is what we are working on right now.  I noticed there was a flag, firework and a star.

So....

I sliced up my watermelon and cut out the shapes with my cookie cutters!  I sliced the melon about 2 cm thick.  You'll also want to get a seedless watermelon otherwise you'll spend all day picking out the seeds.  Not having to do that makes this easy and fast!

I added the blueberries because you have to have red, white and blue!

I'm trying to add more serving platters and bowls in white.  You food will really pop and you can use them with any type of theme.  They also go well with all different kinds of linens.  It's definitely fun to have a few printed pieces but I would suggest investing in white!

This is also a great dish to make with toddlers!  And they love eating it as well!!  I think next I'll be punching out letters and numbers!
