Strawberry Santas

I love a good party.  And I love party food.  Appetizers are probably my favorite dish and I'm sorry to say that I haven't been making enough of them lately!  I was super happy to have an excuse to try out this recipe for our church Christmas party a couple of weeks ago.  I saw this recipe on 21 Rosemary Lane and just fell in love with the cute little Strawberry Santas!

This recipe is super easy!

Strawberry Santas
2 packages of fresh strawberries
8 oz cream cheese
8 T powdered sugar
1 T vanilla (use white if you have it)

Try to find strawberries that are as "hat shaped" as possible.  With a paring knife cut off the stems.  Then slice the bottom off the strawberry leaving about 2/3rds.

Mix your cream cheese, powdered sugar and vanilla with a hand mixer.  (Make sure your cream cheese is at room temperature.  I did this at the last minute before the party and the cream cheese was too cold.  It didn't want to stick to the strawberries and they looked messier than I would have preferred.)

If you have fancy decorating gear you can use it but I simply put my cream cheese mixture in 2 ziplock bags.  I cut a tiny hole in the corner for the buttons and a larger hole in the other bag for the filling and the topper.

Pipe your cream cheese on the strawberry and top with the bottom 1/3.  Pipe on the hat and the buttons and you are finished!  The original recipe called for chocolate jimmies for eyes but I didn't have any and I still think they look pretty cute without!

A variation of this would be leaving the strawberries whole and then piping a large pompom on top to make it look like a santa hat.

Another mistake I made was using a dark vanilla.  I have dark and clear vanilla.  I couldn't find the clear that day and I think they look a little dingy since the dark vanilla changed the color of the cream cheese.

Hope you enjoy these cute little snacks!  My 2 year old thought they were wonderful and I think they were a hit at the party too!

Like this recipe?  I'd love it if you pinned it!
