My First Mommy Dilemma
Here are some things I've been eyeing lately...
Super cute boots from Ann Taylor Loft
Rolling Vera Bradley Luggage
Another cute pair or boots!!
A new non-Bear-destroyed comforter
A sweater jacket and weather in which to wear it
Here is my Mommy dilemma. In the grand scheme of life it's no big deal. But in the "Mommy" stage I can't figure out where to shop and what to buy. I'm not shopping until I get the rest of this weight off. So the good news about my dilemma is that it leaves me a little time to decide! I'm hoping that around Christmas when I get birthday and Christmas money I can take advantage of sales AND knowing where we are moving. Then I'll have a better idea of what I need for a new place and new weather!
Charleston is a very one-note place for clothes. At least it has been for me. I can't bear to go into a shop and try on a wool sweater or tights when it is 80 degrees out...which is today...in October! I pretty much wear my "summer clothes" from March/April until November. This leaves the summer clothes pretty worn out each year and I am SO sick of them by the time cooler weather comes around. Summer clothes tend to be pretty casual and most of the events that we attend are casual. Peter and I don't tend to eat out at fancy places and we really don't have very many occasions to "dress up". I realized the other day that we've been invited to a cocktail party to celebrate someone getting married and I don't have 1 dress that isn't cotton!!
Back to the Mommy dilemma. Not only have I dressed more casually in Charleston but now I am a Mommy. Spit up and pee, both of which covered my shirt and jeans yesterday, don't lend themselves to cute sweaters and designer jeans! Not only do I not want them ruined but most days I am at home or running errands. I don't need the dress pants and high heels that I wore when I worked. (Ok, ok, so maybe I cheated occasionally and wore jeans at work but still!) But at the same time I still want to be able to get dressed up and even dressed for the day and feel "dressed".
I see all these cute clothes in magazines but I can't figure out where the Mommy-clothes balance is. Any ideas? For all your Mommys what do you wear on a daily basis? I can't wait to hear what you are wearing so I can gear up for my super shopping trip!!
Speaking of things I want....head on over to my friend Courtney's blog for a chance to win this!!

If I"m going out somewhere (Dr. visit, shopping, etc.) I like to look cute. I generally opt for jeans or capris/shorts (depending on weather, of course) with a cute top and cute shoes. For just hanging around the house, I'm not one to necessarily get "dressed". A lot of days I spend in pj's or "comfy" clothes, but sometimes I like to look nice when my hubby comes home, and will put on jeans and a cute shirt or a comfy-ish dress... I'm not one for dressing up, though... I don't really enjoy it much past the put it on and admire/accessorize phase. Come to think of it, I may be very little help to you... sorry! But fun beads/jewelry or cute shoes can liven up even just jeans and a tee shirt! and are usually easily clean-up-able from the spit up and pee/poo we get all over us!
ReplyDeleteAs a fellow weight-losing mommy, I bought really simple dresses that could be dressed up with jewelry at that stage. Take it from me--the weight will eventually start coming off, and there's no reason to spend money on expensive clothes that you will probably only wear a few times and then maybe again after the next baby. Luckily the fashion trends right now involve a lot of a-line dresses, which are great for the post-baby body. I wear jeans and boyfriend tees almost every day of my life. I like to be comfortable and for $6 a pop at Old Navy or Target, I don't mind if they get covered in puke, pee, or poop.
ReplyDeleteI still wear my designer jeans every day (even though I'm past most of the poo and peed on stages) I have a rule that I had to do my hair everyday (I made that rule after Kate was born) and after Emma was born I have to do make up everyday (I cheat on that one though) Just make sure whatever you dress in you feel good!! Even if you are just hanging out at the house all day. Also, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately, I don't have a bag to give away just a $50 off discount code :O( Sorry :O( I SO wish I had a bag to give away!!! Maybe someday I will have the readers to convince a company to give me a bag he he
